Tygart Valley Regional Jail Overview
Tygart Valley Regional Jail and Correctional Facility is operated by the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation. It is the primary facility for Upshur County jail custody work even though it is located in Randolph County. The current facility page lists Barbour, Pocahontas, Preston, Randolph, Taylor, Tucker, and Upshur among counties served. The Upshur County sheriff contact page also links residents to Tygart Valley for jail custody.
The facility opened in June 2005 and sits off the Coalton/Norton exit of Route 33. WVDCR describes it as a regional jail and correctional facility. It holds pretrial felons, pretrial misdemeanants, sentenced felons and misdemeanants, DOC Division inmates, and some federal-status inmates reflected in annual report tables. The facility page also states that Tygart Valley houses the majority of the state's female inmates awaiting transfer to prison.
The official WVDCR facility page is the strongest public source for address, phone, directions, superintendent, counties served, and visitation schedule.
The page confirms that Upshur County residents should use the regional jail system rather than looking for a county jail in Buckhannon.

Tygart Valley Booking and Intake
An Upshur County arrest may be made by the sheriff's office, Buckhannon Police, West Virginia State Police, DNR, or another agency. After arrest, the person may pass through local law-enforcement processing and magistrate procedures, then be committed to Tygart Valley if detention is ordered. Public data may appear in the regional jail search or the daily admissions list.
Current official sources did not publish a Tygart Valley step-by-step booking manual. The research supports a practical intake path: identity confirmation, jail-system entry, property inventory, search, photograph and fingerprints if applicable, medical or security screening, classification, and housing. Housing unit or pod details are not published in the inspected public sources.

About Tygart Valley Programs
The Tygart Valley resource guide is a community resource guide rather than a full in-jail program catalog. It lists statewide and local help such as West Virginia 211, Help4WV, Medicaid/InROADS, domestic violence resources, WorkForce WV, behavioral-health providers, housing resources, Opportunity House in Buckhannon, and Upshur County Housing Authority. Exact in-jail grievance forms, sick-call forms, and mental-health screening forms were not located in the official public sources reviewed.
West Virginia law requires covered facilities to provide health and medical services, food services, mail, telephone use, visitation, legal access, vocational training, educational programs, counseling services including drug and alcohol counseling, and sanitation. For current access to a service, use the facility phone rather than relying on an old vendor or third-party listing.
